Questions to ask before you say yes

Can you do it yourself?

A good DIY on easy engines with a torque wrench and a socket; cross-threading or overtightening can wreck the cylinder head.

Common questions

How often do spark plugs need replacing?

Copper plugs last about 30,000 miles, while iridium or platinum often last 60,000 to 100,000. Your manual lists the interval.

Can old plugs cause a misfire code?

Yes. Worn plugs are one of the most common reasons for a misfire code, along with bad coils. Cheap to rule out early.

Why do some jobs cost much more?

Some V6 and boxer engines hide plugs behind other parts, so it takes hours to reach them. A four-cylinder with easy access is much cheaper.

How much does spark plug replacement cost?
