What stays on your device

My Car (your car, VIN, mileage and reminder dates) and saved quote checks are stored in your browser. We do not receive them. Clearing your browser data deletes them.

What we receive

• Page and tool events. A random ID stored in your browser, the page type and the step you reached (for example "got a verdict"). No name, no email, no prices, no VIN. We use it to find where people get stuck.
• Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) for aggregate site stats such as page views, which pages people use and which tools get finished. Google sets cookies and receives your IP address and device details to produce those stats. We do not send it your VIN, prices, email or anything you type into a tool. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
• Recall and VIN lookups. The VIN, or the year, make and model, is sent to our server and on to NHTSA to get recalls. We cache results by the first part of the VIN, not the serial number.
• Shared quotes. If you share a real quote, we store the job, ZIP area (first 3 digits), price, shop type, date and any car details you typed. Do not enter names, phone numbers or VINs. We store a daily-rotating hash of your IP address to limit spam, not the address itself. Quotes are only published as grouped totals, never singly, and never with a shop name.
• Email lists. If you join a waiting list, we store your email, ZIP if given, the page you were on and the time you agreed. Nothing is sent yet. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal data. We do not text anyone. We do not pass your details to a contractor or shop. We do not knowingly collect data from children; this site is for adults.

Photos

Photo upload is not turned on. If it is added, uploaded photos will be deleted within an hour after they are read, unless you choose to let us keep a copy to check our reader. We will update this page first.

Delete my data

To remove an email or a shared quote, write to the address on the site's contact page once it is published, with the email or the ZIP, job and price. Until then, you can delete everything on your device from your browser settings.
