How this range is built

The hourly rate is the BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025 average pay for this trade in the US, $27.13 an hour, times 4 to 5.5 to cover what a shop bills (overhead, tools, insurance, profit). Parts are a band from budget aftermarket to the manufacturer part. Full method.

This is the range for the most common fix, fuel injector replacement (one injector). Which repair your car needs depends on a proper diagnosis.
On the engine side that does not hold cylinder 1, the oxygen sensor keeps seeing too much fuel for the air coming in. The computer has already cut fuel as far as it is allowed and the mix is still rich. That wastes gas and can slowly harm the catalytic converter.
- Safe to drive?
- Usually yes, for now
- Most common cause
- Leaking fuel injector on that side
Short trips are fine, but get it checked soon because the extra fuel can harm the catalytic converter.

What you may notice
- Fuel smell
- Dark exhaust smoke
- Lower gas mileage
- Rough running
Common causes, most likely first
- Leaking fuel injector on that side
- Faulty oxygen sensor
- Dirty mass airflow sensor
- Clogged air filter
- Fuel pressure regulator problem
Check this first
Look at the air filter and ask whether fuel trim numbers are high on one side only or both. That tells the shop whether to look at one injector or something shared.
Other repairs that sometimes fix P0175
| Repair | Typical range, US |
|---|---|
| Mass airflow sensor replacement | $120 to $390 |
| Oxygen sensor replacement (one sensor) | $100 to $350 |
| Diagnostic scan (check engine light) | $55 to $250 |
Before you pay
- Ask the shop what test showed this part is the cause, not just that the code appeared.
- Ask for parts and labor listed separately, and for the hours.
- Ask for a written OK before any extra work. Many states require written authorization before repairs.

P0175 questions
Does this mean I need all injectors replaced?
Not usually. A shop can test the injectors one at a time, and often just one or two on that side are leaking. Replacing the full set without testing is more costly and often unnecessary.
Could the oxygen sensor be lying?
Yes. A slow or biased sensor can make the computer think the mix is rich when it is not, so shops compare live sensor readings with the fuel trim before replacing any parts.
Will it clear itself?
The light may go out if the cause was temporary, such as a one-time bad tank of gas. If something is truly wrong, the code will return after a few drive cycles, so it is worth checking.

The most common fix, fuel injector replacement (one injector), has a typical range of $170 to $820 across the US. It is an estimate built from parts prices and local labor wages, not a quote. Your car and shop change it.
