Beverly is a mix of older close-in streets near downtown and the harbor, and larger-lot suburban and shoreline areas in Beverly Farms and Prides Crossing. Drive lengths vary widely.
Parking during storms
An Emergency Parking Ban is invoked whenever snow or ice is forecast. During the ban no parking on any street is allowed. Flashing blue lights at 12 locations remind drivers. Towed cars are handled by New Beverly Auto at 978-922-3650. Municipal lots and a reduced-rate MBTA garage on Rantoul Street are open during a ban.
Sidewalks
Owners of property next to a sidewalk, including curb ramps, must clear snow 6 hours after snowfall ends (daytime snow) or by 1 pm the next day (overnight snow), and make the sidewalk safe within 6 hours after it becomes icy. The fine is $25, and each further 24 hours is a new $25 fine. Pushing snow into streets or sidewalks is banned. Hardship exemptions are available.
- The city's ordinance Chapter 215, section 215-12 covers snow removal and was amended in April 2021.
- Basketball hoops in the street should be removed because plows can destroy them.
- Municipal lots open during a ban include Briscoe/Hale Street, Chapman/Federal Street and Congress Street/Summit Avenue.
