Snow in Marblehead

Marblehead began as a fishing village with narrow crooked streets, and much of Old Town is a protected historic district. Many older homes sit close to narrow streets with little room to pile snow.

Parking during storms

The town declares a snow emergency parking ban storm by storm, for example from 9 p.m. until roads are safe, or overnight from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. During a ban it is illegal to park any vehicle, boat or trailer on any public way, and violators can be ticketed or towed to the town tow lot at 5 Woodfin Terrace or a lot at 171 Boston Street in Salem. Call police at 781-631-1212 to find a towed car.

Sidewalks

We found no town rule on how fast owners must clear sidewalks. Town notices only say snow and ice may not be put on a fire hydrant, sidewalk or roadway. Check with the town.

Town rules checked Oct 2026. Confirm current rules with Marblehead's public works page.
