Steering: hose, piping, and connections (15V878000)

Filed December 23, 2015

What is wrong. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles manufactured January 1, 2015, to May 11, 2015. During assembly, the power steering hose retention clamp may have been installed at an incorrect location, resulting in the detachment of the low pressure return hose.

What could happen. If the power steering fluid return hose detaches, it would leak fluid and increase the risk of a fire.

The fix. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the return power steering hose clamp, repositioning the clamp as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R68.

Check that your car is on the list

Most campaigns cover only cars built in a certain date range or at a certain plant, so a 2015 Jeep Patriot may or may not be included. The VIN is the only sure test. It is 17 characters, on the dashboard by the windshield and on the driver door jamb sticker. Look up your VIN.

How to confirm the repair is free

If you already paid for a repair that a recall later covered, Jeep may owe you a refund. Ask the dealer or Jeep customer service about reimbursement, and keep your receipts.
