A transmission sensor tells the computer about gear and speed. A bad one can cause erratic shifts, no start in park, or limp mode.

Common questions
What does a bad transmission sensor do?
It can cause harsh shifts, wrong gear selection, a dash warning or limp mode. The computer reads the sensor to decide when to shift.
Is it a cheap fix?
Often, if it's mounted on the outside of the case. Sensors inside the transmission cost more.
Could it be wiring?
Yes. A damaged wire or loose connector can set the same codes as a bad sensor. Ask the shop to check the harness before swapping parts.
How much does transmission speed / range sensor replacement cost?
A typical range across the US is $110 to $450. That is an estimate from parts prices, labor hours and the local labor rate, not a quote.
